According to numerous reports, two more players have been caught up in the A-League betting scandal, both of which coming from Macarthur FC.
In mid-May, it was reported that three footballers from the A-League had been charged after an investigation into alleged betting corruption.
A senior player was said to be alleging taking instructions from a man, believed to be in South America, to organise for yellow cards to be taken during certain games in return for money.
The trio who has been alleged to be involved in this case are Macarthur players Kearyn Baccus, Ulises Davila and Clayton Lewis.
Reports state that the identities of two more players, namely Matthew Millar and Jed Drew, was revealed in court documents, as Baccus become the first of the three to face court over the allegations.
A statement has reportedly been released by Football Australia, which said: “Following the court appearance of player Kearyn Baccus this morning, Football Australia acknowledges the enquiries regarding the potential involvement of other Macarthur FC players in the betting allegations, specifically, enquiries have been made about players Jed Drew and Matthew Millar.
“We have been informed by the State Crime Command Organised Crime Squad that the investigation, known as Strike Force Beaconview, is ongoing. It is important to note that player Jed Drew is not regarded as a suspect and is currently not under investigation.
“Football Australia takes these matters seriously and is committed to cooperating fully with the authorities.”
In related news, West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta was last week charged by the Football Association (FA) with four breaches of the governing bodies betting rules.
