US RevenueNevada Gaming Control board has announced that a record breaking $558.2m was bet by individuals on the state’s legal sports books during the month of September. This mammoth total beats the previous record of $557m taken in bets during November 2015. Over $370m of this total came from betting on American football contests, while a further $142.4m was bet on Major League Baseball matches. An additional $30m was bet on the Canelo Alvarez and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin boxing match which took place on September 16th at the T-Mobile arena on the Las Vegas strip. The remaining monies came from parlay cards and pari-mutual bets placed in the state.Nevada’s 189 legal sportsbooks won $44.4m back from bettors during September, rising year-on-year by 8% from the same month in 2016. Of these funds, returns from American football amounted to over $40.7m or 91% of the revenue. However the total failed to eclipse the monster rise in betting in August, in which over $70m was bet on the Conor McGregor Vs Floyd Mayweather Jr superfight, which caused a 1,650% year-on-year rise in winnings for the bookies, netting them over $20m.
