The Gaming Authority (KSA) has announced that it will publish the amended Responsible Gaming Policy Rules in June 2024.
Initially scheduled for release in May 2024, the publication date has been postponed to Monday 3 June 2024 due to an extension of the response period for stakeholders in the gaming sector.
In December 2023, KSA invited input from various stakeholders, including gaming providers, addiction care professionals and experts, regarding proposed changes to the Responsible Gaming Policy Rules. These changes were aimed at strengthening the duty of care of online providers towards their players.
The KSA received a substantial number of responses, prompting the need for additional time to review and consider the feedback thoroughly.
The decision to postpone the publication date was made to ensure that all consulted parties had sufficient time to provide their input and that their responses were adequately assessed.
While the majority of the amended policy rules will take effect immediately upon publication on 3 June, certain new provisions requiring significant IT adjustments at online providers will be exempted from immediate implementation.
In this manner, the KSA acknowledges the need for online providers to prepare for these new provisions and will announce a separate date for their enforcement shortly.
Earlier this month, KSA struck up an alliance with Cloudflare to combat illegal gambling providers. The agreement means that the KSA are now able to obtain information from Cloudflare about the hosting parties responsible for illegal gambling operations.
