Chicago Cubs @ Cincinnati Reds
- Leg 1: Michael Busch Over 1.5 Total Bases (+115)
- Leg 2: Ian Happ Over 1.5 Total Bases (+105)
- Leg 3: Jameson Taillon Over 4.5 Ks (-125)
The Chicago Cubs will take on Carson Spiers of the Reds. Spiers is a right-handed pitcher who has added a high rate of strikeouts against lefties over the last 30 days. However, he’s also allowed a .429 ISO and wOBA of .464 to his previous 37 lefties.
In addition, Spiers has earned just 20% of ground balls against lefties and has allowed 48% of fly balls. Plus, if you look at his stats for the entire year, he hasn’t earned a high rate of strikeouts against lefties. He’s only struck out 21.3% of lefties this season despite adding 27% of strikeouts over the last month.
Therefore, we’ll take a look at the lefties in the Chicago lineup. Michael Busch has smacked a .171 ISO and wOBA of .341 against his last 79 righties. Meanwhile, switch-hitting Ian Happ has added a .288 ISO and wOBA of .354 against his last 79 righties. Those two have major potential in tonight’s game.
On the other hand, Jameson Taillon will get the call for the Cubs. He’s only earned 20.8% of strikeouts over the last 30 days, but that rate has still increased almost 2%.
He’ll face the Reds’ projected lineup, which has struck out 26.4% of the time against righties. Five batters in that lineup have struck out at least 28.6% of the time against righties. Since Taillon only needs five strikeouts, let’s take our chances to have him add at least five strikeouts. That’ll close the parlay at +646 odds.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Houston Astros
- Leg 1: Oneil Cruz Over 1.5 Total Bases (+105)
- Leg 2: Josh Palacios Over 1.5 Total Bases (+105)
- Leg 3: Michael A. Taylor Over .5 Hits (-120)
It’s Paul Skenes day for Pittsburgh fans. But while I’m betting on the Pirates in this same-game parlay, I’m not even considering backing Skenes.
I love the Pittsburgh offense and think they’ll give Skenes some run support tonight.
The Pirates will face Jake Bloss of the Houston Astros. Bloss has limited walks against his first 54 batters this season. However, he’s still allowed a .353 ISO and wOBA of .430 to those first 54 batters this season. He’s been weak against righties and lefties but has added a higher strikeout rate against righties so far.
That said, Oneil Cruz has been red-hot against righties lately. He’s smashed a .280 ISO and wOBA of .419 against his last 57 righties as a left-handed batter.
Joshua Palacios, another lefty, has slugged a .159 ISO and wOBA of .349 with only 11.5% of strikeouts against righties over the last month. He’s another terrific matchup play against Bloss.
Finally, you’ll want to consider Michael A. Taylor to add a hit. He’s already knocked a .263 ISO and wOBA of .447 against his last 23 righties. Taylor’s a righty himself and will strike out at a high rate. But if he connects against Bloss, he’ll add a ton of hard contact with the barrel. Usually, hits like that result in base hits.
