Currently, the British bookmaker operates 53 shops and an online business in South Africa following the takeover of Betting World and Sepels Sportsbet.
Upon finalising the acquisition of Betting World, Betfred’s Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), Phil Siers, hinted at future investments in Africa. He remarked: “Betfred is excited about the future of Betting World and intends to make a major investment in Africa over the coming years.”
Consequently, the operator’s latest move aligns with this stated ambition. LottoStar represents Betfred’s third major investment in South Africa and paves the way for future growth.
Joanne Whittaker, Betfred’s CEO, touched on this, commenting: “We are delighted to partner with such a fast-growing company in South Africa, the business will not only complement our activity in South Africa but our international businesses in the United States and Europe.
“We look forward to working closely with the LottoStar team to support the continued growth of the business providing world-class games and services to the online betting market in South Africa.”
LottoStar runs fixed-odds numbers betting and live games on its online platform. Via “high-profile marketing campaigns” and support for local communities, the operator has become a nationally recognised brand.
Tasoulla Hadjigeorgiou, LottoStar’s Founder and CEO, added: “As an online betting leader in South Africa, we are excited to partner with one of the UK’s best bookmakers.
“We are confident that this partnership will broaden our offering and provide our customers with the highest quality services.
“Our partnership also paves the way for greater collaboration and expansion, and we are excited to grow our family.”
