BGaming develops compression algorithm to cut game loading time

The supplier hopes its new algorithm will help players overcome difficulties with slow internet connections and VPN limitations.

The algorithm will reduce portfolio weight by compressing game file sizes, which will directly improve loading time as there is less data for a player to connect with.

BGaming’s new software works by compressing a game’s graphics, taking each file and shrinking it to the smallest size possible without affecting the quality of image or video.

The software requires no manual adjustments, as the algorithm’s script compresses images automatically.

The average file size reduction BGaming’s algorithm performs is from 16.4Mb to 7.3Mb. The heaviest file the supplier has reduced so far was a 51% reduction on a 38Mb file.

Now, 70% of BGaming’s portfolio weighs less than 10Mb, with the quality of graphics unchanged, or altered unnoticeably to the naked eye.

BGaming’s Front-end Lead Yury Kuvetski said: “At first glance, the automation of image compression is easy, but none of the ready-made solutions can provide optimisations without losing quality.

“We’ve chosen the most complicated way and developed our own algorithm to satisfy all our needs and customers’ needs. We have sped up the loading time of all our games and will continue our work in this direction to provide players with the best possible experience.”

Alexander Novitski, Game Provider Manager at N1 Partners, said: “As many operators, we also see Africa and Latin America as promising regions, thanks to their economic dynamism and enthusiasm for online gaming. However, opportunities come with a lot of challenges.

“For example, to join the Nigerian iGaming market, an operator needs to provide the players with lightweight content, which can be quickly loaded and run.”
