Lottoland Deutschland receives German licence, joins GGL whitelist

Lottoland Deutschland has received a German licence from the nation’s lottery brokerage. The licence will allow the operator to distribute online state-licensed lottery games as a broker, being placed on the whitelist of companies able to do so by the Joint Gambling Authority of the German federal states (GGL).

Additional licences are also expected to be granted to the company, which will also allow it to offer online sports betting and slot machine games in Germany.

On the licence, Lottoland Deutschland Managing Director Magnus von Zitzewitz said: “We are delighted that our license application has finally been approved by the Joint Gaming Authority of the German federal states after intensive examination by the federal states.”

The news comes despite calls from the GGL to block access to Lottoland Group websites in the nation in October. The authority had asked several payment providers to “terminate cooperation” with Lottoland.

Lottoland works across many jurisdictions. Recent stories from Lottoland’s global operations include a survey in Ireland conducted by Ireland Thinks on behalf of the company in November, which revealed that 75% of those surveyed were against banning gambling, as is intended by the Gambling Regulation Bill 2022.

The company also received a non-exclusive keno licence from the Victoria State Government in early 2022, alongside Tabcorp.

More recent stories include Lottoland’s partnership with HabitRewire. In June, it gave the company access to a range of HabitRewire iGaming wellbeing tools and resources for company staff.
