Simon “The Wizard” Whitlock is our guest for this week’s Betway Premier League Darts Facebook Q&A.
Richard Shorey: Do you wish there was a Sydney Premier League event or do you like being the ‘outsider’ with the crowd?
SW: It would be great to have a Premier League Night in Australia but it would probably be difficult to fit in. I don’t mind though as I’ve never felt like an outsider and all the crowds are normally fantastic with me. I am very happy that we now go to Australia with the PDC in the Sydney Darts Masters.
Alexandra Marika Demetriades: Hi Simon! What is your favourite city/venue to play in?
SW: I don’t really have a favourite venue but I like playing in Germany because the crowd seem to support me loads and I’ve also got good memories at Alexandra Palace. That’s a special place.
Patrick Kal: What’s your best ever win?
SW: Winning the European Championship in 2012. It was my first major and a very special moment for me.
Jack Finn: Do you think you can ever win The World Darts Championship?
SW: Of course. The day I stop thinking that I can win that is the day I’ll stop playing. That’s what all the hard work is aimed at – to be World Champion and world number one.
Paul Mcglinchey: Can you give me three players to back for Thursday night in a Betway accumulator?
SW: I’ll dodge that one as the players are so good that anyone can beat anyone. Hopefully I’ll be getting a win though!
Jamie Bowie: Apart from the World Championship, which major tournament would you most like to win and why?
SW: Definitely the Premier League. I have been in the final once before and to win a darts tournament that has taken four months of work and in front of thousands of fans would be something really magical.
Simon Dewhurst: Hi Simon, which young players do you think will break through in 2014?
SW: I sponsor a young player called Keegan Brown and he is certainly one to watch. He has had a great start to the year and qualified for the UK Open and he’ll be a big star in the future so keep your eye on him this year.
Paul Bando: Why did you first take up darts?
SW: I had watched the game from a young age and always enjoyed playing it. I love the sport and I can’t really remember when I started or why but I have enjoyed all my life.
