Connecticut Sun (-8.5) at Washington Mystics (+310) | O/U 154 (-110/-110)
Don’t look now but the Washington Mystics are on a three-game winning streak. They play host to the Connecticut Sun on Saturday afternoon and in their last meeting back on June 27, the Sun eeked out a 94-91 victory. But THAT was a long time ago.
The Sun have dropped two of their last three on the road, sandwiching losses in Atlanta and Indiana around a victory in Brooklyn against the WNBA-pacing Liberty.
Washington returns home from a two-game cross-country road trip carrying with them victory pelts from the faraway lands of Seattle and Chicago. Last time at home on August 23, the Mystics downed Rickea Jackson and the Sparks, 80-74. The Sun have been leaking hydrogen on the road of late and the Mystics have become one recently and have found ways to win since the Olympic break. They are 3-3 since the return of regular season play and 3-1 against teams other than the Western Conference-leading Minnesota Lynx.
Washington’s success since the break can be attributed to taking better care of the ball. The last time these two teams met, the Mystics turned the ball over a whopping 23 times. Since the break, Washington has not committed more than 19 turnovers in any game. Last time out, in their victory in Chicago they committed just 13 turnovers and forced Chicago into 23 miscues. In their last home game, the Mystics committed just 14 turnovers in the victory that began this current winning streak. During this three-game streak, Washington owns a slight +1 turnover differential.
These two teams have played three times this season and while the Sun are 3-0 SU, they are 1-2 ATS with two of the three meetings finishing inside this number.
The safer play here is Washington getting the 8.5 at home. However, as close as the Mystics were back in June and as well as how they are playing in recent games, this feels like the spot to strike while the iron is hot and being Mjölnir down on the moneyline.
WNBA Pick: Mystics Moneyline (+310)
